Welcome to the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, the forum dedicated to those with politically conservative leanings who merely want to add some news and views from the world of politics as they see it, without having to withstand a tsunami of left-wing lunacy.
First this word about registering for membership. Your "user name" is the name you use to register your account. At that time you will supply a valid email address and create a password. After your registration has been acknowledged you'll use your email address combined with your password for logging into this forum. Your "forum name" is what the other forum users will see. This can be changed in your personal "profile" after your membership is confirmed to the name by which you prefer others to know you.
As you might guess, this forum is a work in progress and I am always open to suggestions for improvements. But for now let's just go over a handful of ground rules:
1) We're all big kids here. We know ALL the "adult" words and can use them correctly in a sentence. Now, let me say I don't expect everyone here to keep their language squeaky clean so as not to embarrass a Sunday school teacher. However, I would ask you not to indulge in gratuitous vulgarity just for the hell of it. Come on, use a little grown up judgment. You're not in 8th grade any more.
2) In any online discussion forum you are going to have that periodic difference of opinion between members who decide to debate the merits of their individual views, sometimes with great gusto. However, "flaming" (look it up if you're unsure of the meaning) will NOT be tolerated. This also includes racially or sexually offensive terms. Who decides what if "offensive?" I do! Which leads us to...
3) The 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I am a great believer in Freedom of Speech and the other freedoms enumerated in the Constitution. However, I will not entertain any whining and crying from someone whose language in the forum has come under official sanction and who responds with "Whatever happened to my right to free speech?" Here's the answer ahead of time. There is NO "right to free speech" in here. This forum is not a government entity and receives no government funding.
But enough of these negative vibes, eh? Let's move on to a couple of things you might like to know:
Using PMs: If you need to communicate with another one of the forum members the best way to do it is with a Private Message (PM). Of course the success of using this method of communicate relies on everyone either logging in regularly to see if they have any messages or, better still, if everyone has chosen to receive a notification by email any time someone sends them a PM. To do this go to your Profile, click the "Edit" button and then click on the "Notifications" tab. You'll see you can get emailed notification for a number of actions. How many you choose is up to you, but I highly recommend the PM notification.
Admin Housecleaning: There are times when a site administrator is obliged to do a little housecleaning. This often involves moving a single postings, several postings, or entire threads to new locations that are more appropriate to their content. As an administrator I have been known to edit someone's posting to correct some egregious error of spelling or grammar, or simply to make it "look" better. However, I will assure all VRWC members what I will NOT do is change the substantive meaning of anyone's posting through administrative editing. In other words I don't change what you say.
This brings me to a little "helpful hint." Should you realize you have some editing that needs to be done in one of your postings but you are unsure of how to accomplish the task, feel free to PM me and explain the situation. I'll be more than happy to lend you a hand.
Making Postings More Readable: Anyone who goes to the trouble of posting their thoughts and opinions in a discussion forum like VRWC undoubtedly wants others to read those postings. Here's a simple tip to make them more readable: Insert frequent paragraph markers. While reading online text people need to give their eyes frequent "rest periods." Breaking text into short paragraphs helps this process. A handy rule of thumb is to start a new paragraph after every 3 or 4 lines of text, 5 lines at the most.
In doing so you give your audience a chance to digest what they've just read, then move on to the next helping of the posting. Of course adding an image or two is good, too, BUT this is the simplest technique and anyone who has the capability to post text can do it.
If you have any other questions or need assistance just let know. I'm full of answers and every once in a while the answer is even correct. Who knew?
